About This Psalter

This four-week psalter follows the structure and spirituality of the traditional Roman Breviary, preserving its daily themes and its overall vision for praying the 150 psalms. The classic Breviary completes the entire psalter every week; this edition keeps the same framework but extends it into a four-week rhythm for those who wish to follow the traditional order but find it difficult to pray the full, one-week cycle.

Grounded in the Themes of the Traditional Breviary

Each day in the traditional Breviary carries a recognizable thematic character. For example:

  • Sunday centers on glory, kingship, and divine praise — including psalms such as 1, 2, 8, 18, and 24.
  • Monday reflects creation, law, and trust — including psalms such as 3–5, 11, 14–15, and 25.
  • Friday is marked by penitence and the Passion — featuring psalms like 31, 37, 50, 58, 82, and the portions of Psalm 69.

This four-week system keeps those themes intact. Psalms are assigned with careful attention to the traditional
tone of each day: trust on Mondays, supplication on Tuesdays, covenant and history on Wednesdays, temple and
thanksgiving on Thursdays, penitence on Fridays, pilgrimage on Saturdays, and praise on Sundays. Longer psalms
are divided at true Vulgate verse boundaries, and when a theme did not have enough psalms to fill a day evenly,
nearby psalms with similar character were included.
